Are sour cherries really "sour"?

The North Star is considered a tart cherry. The cherry is best used for cooking when making cherry pie, cheery cobbler etc. They are aka a sour cherry. Some people think they are sour and other people say they are tart. It is not a cherry you pick off the tree and pop in your mouth unless you are wanting a tart taste.
