Is this ok for my betta fish?

He's in his new 5 gallon tank right now... I noticed after i installed the filter he had a tough time swimming through the current it makes, but now it seems like he's made it into a game and tests himself to see if he can swim through the current or something... Is this ok for him? And sometimes he's caught unaware and the filter current will shoot him all over the tank. Will i need to get a different filter? The one i have right now is i think a Tetra 5-15 gallon. The tank was a Tetra, so i'm uming the filter is too...
